Obsession: Culottes

Ransack your (grand) mother's closet for a pair of CULOTTES because they are back in a big way on the runway.

You know, culottes - those pants that you could wear and pretend that you are wearing a really short skirt and still bend over? With hems that are fuller than the waist, they look like a "split skirt", and were worn by Brownie Guides and Catholic school girls in story book illustrations.

Despite fashionistas all over the world calling them an abomination and crying blue murder to the crimes of fashion with the showcase of culottes on the Spring/Summer 2010 runway shows, I find it hard not to like these shorts that has the dressiness of a skirt and the modesty of pants.

Fear not that you'd be mistaken for someone whose style is stuck in the sixties for donning culottes. Chanel showcased their 2010 collection with models sashaying down the runway with tailored culottes paired with pastel formal suits.

Stylish women also have no reason to shun culottes for fear that it might make them appear short and frumpy. With higher hemlines, such as those seen in Peter Som's 2010 Spring collection, culottes make a surprisingly versatile, stylish AND flattering option for us ladies living in the hot tropics to show off our tanned legs.

What do you think?
