Johnny Depp: Sexiest Man Alive

The votes are in and People magazine have crowned Johnny Depp as 2009's Sexiest Man Alive. He can now count himself in the venerated club of two-time winners alongside Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

But really, they couldn't have picked a brighter soul in the cookie-cutter catalogue of Hollywood stars. Amidst the metrosexual pretty boys who think having a six-peck makes you a man, it’s nice to see someone be recognised for having real originality in their craft.

From his childlike portrayal of Edward Scissorhands, a singing serial killer in Sweeney Todd, to his more recent outing as a slightly emasculated pirate, Johnny Depp colours every one of his roles with a tinge of quaint and a splash of cool that no other actor has dared to replicate.

Women are enraptured by his free-spirited mystique and his desire to play by his own rules while men just want to be him so they can get more women. Either way, let’s hope Johnny sticks around for the fourth Pirates movie – I’d rather sleep with a homeless man than see Zac Efron grow a beard and butcher Jack Sparrow.
