Queens Spa (Shenzhen)

If you have ever been to Shenzhen (which is located next to Hong Kong), and ask for an affordable place to pamper yourself, Queens Spa would probably be where you want to go.

With free shuttle services at the two checkpoints from Hong Kong, I found it a very convenient place for me to unwind after a long day of walking and shopping. The shuttle service led me to a huge building, which I later learnt is separated into various levels for different services.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Queens Spa for the first time upon entering the main doors. The place looks grand, and I was greeted (relatively) enthusiastically by various managers who then ushered me to the attendants. They handed me a wristband (which served as my means of identification and payment in the building) and walked me into the locker area, before assisting in putting my clothes and valuables into my personal locker.

I was then handed a towel, and a pair of slippers. I was given free rein to the showers, Jacuzzi, steam or dry sauna in the same level. Following that, I dumped my towel on a nearby bin before one of the many attendants passed me a pair of pyjamas, as well as some disposable underwear for me to dress up before leaving the area.

If you came in with friends of the opposite sex, the next place is known as the meeting point where one can enjoy a wide range of services including ear-cleaning, neck and leg massages and others while resting on a comfortable reclining sofa. Having been here twice, I usually opt for a leg massage while indulging myself on the free flow of fruits (and certain drinks).

Though you could choose to sit at one of the various tables neatly placed around the level, and order a snack or a full meal though if you just want to catch up with your friends for dinner.

End the day with a selection of full body massages or facials. If you spend enough, you can rest in the room until the sun rises, or if you want to skip the services, just head down to the designated sleeping cots. Each guest is entitled to a simple bed which is packed side by side with other beds, and one can also ask the staff to give you a morning call if there is a need.

I usually conclude with a full body massage as I consider it the highlight of my visit, and also because there is a minimal spending of RMB168 before you qualify for a stay at the cot.

Prices range from RMB168 to as much as RMB600 (or more) per person depending on the amount of food and services you have enjoyed, not forgetting how well you tip. Personally, after visiting it twice, I find it a better option than staying in a hotel room in Hong Kong. If you intend to get some decent rest however, a hotel still wins hands down.

But if you have some time and cash to spend, why sleep why you can enjoy like a King, or a Queen for that matter?
